Town Development Manager - Knaresborough Town Council
Salary: £40,000–£45,000 pro rata
Hours: 25 hours per week (including Wednesdays; occasional evenings/weekends)
Contract: 1-year fixed term (with potential extension)
Location: Knaresborough, North Yorkshire
Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme
Knaresborough Town Council is seeking a proactive and commercially minded Town Development Manager to lead the economic vitality of this historic market town.
This key role will drive town centre management, market operations, and economic initiatives that support local businesses, increase footfall, and strengthen the visitor economy. You will lead the strategic and commercial development of Knaresborough Market, manage town and market budgets, deliver events and partnerships, and identify new opportunities for sustainable growth and investment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead town centre and market management, including rebranding and commercial development of the market
- Develop and deliver a Town Economic Strategy and Market Business Plan
- Drive footfall, income generation, events, and business engagement
- Manage budgets, performance reporting, and financial sustainability
- Build strong partnerships with businesses, traders, Councillors, and external organisations
- Secure external funding and support economic and community initiatives
About You
Essential:
- Management or leadership experience in town centres, economic development, markets, regeneration, or similar
- Strong financial and commercial skills
- Experience working with businesses, traders, and stakeholders
- Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills
Desirable:
- Experience in market management, events, tourism, or place-making
- Experience securing grants or external funding
- Knowledge of sustainable economic development
