Update on plans for Knaresborough’s Market
12 March 2025
Knaresborough Town Council’s Market Working Group met last week to review the feasibility report received from the Consultant appointed by KTC to facilitate discussions with North Yorkshire Council about the potential transfer of the market’s management and operation to the Town Council.
The Market Working Group have put forward a recommendation to the Town Council to proceed with the Consultant led Business Plan to further progress consideration of KTC taking over the operation of Knaresborough market. The agenda item will be discussed at the Council meeting on Monday 17th March.
All Town Council meeting agendas and minutes can be found on the Town Council website www.knaresboroughtowncouncil.gov.uk
KTC will continue to share updates as progress and decisions are made.
The transfer of the market is part of North Yorkshire Council’s ‘Double Devolution’ strategy to provide opportunities for town and parish council and community groups to manage services and assets. Any transfer needs to be at no cost to North Yorkshire Council and, in the case of Knaresborough Market, to be financially viable for the Town Council.
The final decision on the transfer will be taken by the Executive of North Yorkshire Council when all arrangements and financial considerations are in place.
