Knaresborough Town Council visit to the new Knaresborough Leisure and Wellness Centre
Three Knaresborough Town Council councillors, Margy Longhurst, Matt Walker and Helen Westmancoat, visited the new Knaresborough Leisure and Wellness Centre on March 28th to view the building construction stage and to see what progress is being made. The Centre is due to open mid-to-late September, slightly later than planned due to problems with connecting up the electricity supply.
The building addresses in large measure climate and environmental issues. It is all electric with heat source pumps, and solar panels on the roof. A huge amount of insulation is also being fitted. There are wet and dry changing rooms for those wishing to access both pool and/or gym. A whole room is allocated for static bikes, perhaps also to generate more power!
On the second floor also there is a dance studio and space for yoga and pilates classes with views over the town and beyond. The pool itself is six-lane, so much wider than the existing one, and uses steel panels rather than concrete as walls. With insulation this should help it to be heated quicker. There is a smaller children’s pool, and there will also be flumes. There is also good disabled access and special changing rooms if required.
The café area at the front has views over the pool and the children’s play area. It can be accessed without needing to use the pool and gym so is a good social space, that will attract both townspeople and visitors alike.
Councillors look forward to another visit later in the year when more of the interior decoration and design is in place.
