Margy gave a speech about her year as Mayor, sharing highlights from the past 12 months. In particular she spoke about the wonderful volunteer Tour Guides that have been training over the past 5 months and are now ready to offer free walking tours every Wednesday and Saturday starting from the Market Cross at 11am.
Margy then awarded the Community Cup and Environment Cup, as well as two special Mayor’s Award certificates, which recognise people, organisations and groups that have made significant contributions to the town over the last 12 months.
The Community Cup - awarded to Knaresborough Museum Association
The Environment Cup - awarded to Knaresborough Forest Park
A Mayor’s Award certificate was given to Craft and Social, and Andrew and Christine Willoughby in recognition and thanks for their contribution to our community in particular our VE Day commemorations.
Margy also handed out cheques to her chosen charities for the year; Knaresborough Museum Association and The Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag. This money was raised through the Mayor's Medieval Family Fun Day that happened earlier this month.
The outgoing Mayor Margy Longhurst then invested the new Mayor for 2025/2026 Cllr Helen Westmancoat and her Consort Mr. John Westmancoat. Helen's Deputy Mayor for this period is Cllr Andy Bell.
We thank Margy for everything she’s done for our town over the last 12 months and welcome Helen as our new Mayor of Knaresborough and wish her a wonderful year ahead!
