Message From Yorkshire Water

Published: 02 July 2019

We are about to lay 2 kilometres of new water pipe in Boroughbridge Road, Knaresborough from its junction with Byards Park to just north of the new housing development at Chestnut Drive. This work is to ensure we can continue to supply high-quality drinking water to local customers and businesses and also supply new housing developments in the area. The work will also boost clean water supply during peak demand periods during the summer and winter.

From Monday 22 July 2019 our capital partners, Morrison Utility Services, will start work to lay the new water pipe. We expect this work to take until the end of February 2020 to complete and our normal working hours will be Monday to Sunday 8am to 5.30pm. On occasions we may need to work a little later.

To carry out this work we’ll need to work in the highway which, for safety reasons, will require traffic management and the closure of some sides roads when we’re working near to these junctions. We understand that these works will be inconvenient which is why we've liaised closely with North Yorkshire County Council Highways Department regarding every aspect of this essential scheme.

Phases of work.

The start and finish locations of each phase are approximate and may be subject to change due to ground conditions and other unexpected problems that are encountered as the scheme progresses. Approximate start and completion dates for each section of road will be:

First Phase

The first phase of the scheme will be between Boroughbridge Road’s junctions with Byards Park and approximately Scriven Road and will start on Monday 22 July. To ensure the safety of the site team and other road users it will be necessary to have two or three-way traffic lights in place 24 hours a day whilst we work in short sections of the road which will move as our work progresses. Some side roads will be closed when we’re working next to these junctions with local diversions in place.

This phase of the scheme will be completed by Friday 13 September as we’ve been asked to remove all our highway works prior to the UCI World Cycle Event in Harrogate.

Second Phase

The second phase of the scheme will commence on Monday 30 September between approximately Scriven Road and Park Gate.

To ensure the safety of the site team and other road users it will be necessary to have two or three-way traffic lights in place 24 hours a day whilst we work in short sections of the road which will move as our work progresses. Some side roads will be closed when we’re working next to these junctions with local diversions in place.

This phase of the scheme will be completed by Friday 20 December and all traffic management removed.

No work will be completed over the Christmas and New Year period.

Third Phase

The third phase of the scheme will commence on Monday 6 January 2020 and will be between approximately Park Gate and just north of Chestnut Drive.

To ensure the safety of the site team and other road users it will be necessary to have two or three-way traffic lights in place 24 hours a day whilst we work in short sections of the road which will move as our work progresses. Some side roads will be closed when we’re working next to these junctions with local diversions in place.

This phase of the scheme is expected to be completed by the end of February 2020

During the project, there may be times when access to drives on Boroughbridge Road is restricted. If this is required our site team will advise customers beforehand.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times during our scheme and all our working areas will be restored as we progress.

We’re writing to customers to apologies for the disruption and any inconvenience this work will cause and thank everyone in advance for their patience. We’ll do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work as quickly as possible.

As we’re laying an additional clean water pipe, we’re not expecting to interrupt customers water or wastewater supply. Should this change, we’ll contact customers again.

We’re also informing customers that we’ll not need access inside their property and to always ensure they ask for identification before letting anyone onto their property. If they are ever in doubt, or have any questions, to contact us.
