This project is an
eagerly awaited facility for the various performing and visual arts groups in
The venture has been ongoing since the bandstand was taken away.
A comprehensive design brief was written by Knaresborough Town Council, and the design was reached after detailed consultations with Historic England and Harrogate Borough Council.
The resulting scheme is a culmination of these consultations and has the full backing of all participating parties.
The new design is uncompromisingly modern, yet a sympathetic translation of the medieval tented form of pavilion.
It is a simple open lightweight structure on a shallow hard standing, in order not to disturb any archaeological remains.
It offers flexible protection from the elements with sides that can be lowered out of the roof, and blends into the site without visually competing with the ruins that surround it.
It is to be of high quality materials and has been sympathetically and carefully designed.
